Pavers in West Palm Beach, FL

Blacktip Construction sets brick pavers over a properly built base. Tell us the space and the look you want, and we will talk through the layout.

The short answer

What are pavers, and where do they work?

Pavers are individual stones or blocks set in a pattern over a prepared base, instead of one poured slab. Blacktip Construction installs brick paver walkways, patios and driveways in West Palm Beach and the towns around it.

Because every paver is its own piece, the surface can follow curves, mix tones and take the pattern you pick. The part you cannot see matters most. A paver surface is only as steady as the base under it, so the work starts in the ground, not on top of it. Every good paver job begins with listening to how you plan to use the space.

In South Florida that means planning for strong sun, heat and heavy summer rain. Tell us what you want to build, how big the space is and how you will use it, and we will talk through the layout, the pattern and the edges.

After the install, paver sealing helps protect color and joints.

What is included

What goes into a paver job

A paver surface is a stack of steps. Here is what each job covers, from the first layout to the last sweep.

Layout and pattern

We walk the space with you, mark the shape and talk through the pattern and the paver tones you like.

Excavation and base

The surface soil comes out and a compacted base goes in for the pavers to sit on.

Sand bed and laying

A level sand bed goes down, then each paver is set by hand to the pattern, with cuts where the shape calls for them.

Edge restraint

Restraint along the border holds the field in place so the outer pavers stay where they were set.

Joints and cleanup

Joints are filled, the surface is compacted and swept, and the work area is cleaned up when we finish.

Where pavers go

Where can pavers go on your property?

Pavers suit more than one spot. These are the places people ask us about most.

Walkways

Paver walkways follow curves, run past steps and tie a front door to the driveway or the yard.

Patios

A paver patio gives you a firm, level spot for chairs, a table or a grill, in a pattern and tones you choose.

Driveways

Paver driveways take the pattern and the tones of your choice. Tell us how the drive is used and we will plan the base around it.

Ask us

Pool decks

Ask us. Tell us about your pool area and we will say whether a paver deck is a fit and what it would involve.

Inside a paver surface

What is under a paver surface?

A simple cross-section, top to bottom. Details change with the site, but the layers do not.

  1. Pavers

The visible surface. Individual units set in a pattern, with joints between them.

  2. Sand bed

A thin, level layer the pavers are set into so the surface is even.

  3. Compacted base

Packed, layered stone that carries the load and sheds water. This is the layer that does the heavy lifting.

  4. Soil

The ground underneath, cleared and prepared before the base goes in.

  5. Edge restraint

A border that locks the outer pavers in so the field does not spread.

How it works

How does a paver install go?

  1. Look at the space

We see the area, talk through how you will use it and agree on the shape, pattern and edges.

  2. Build the base

We excavate, then build and compact a base, because the base is what keeps pavers steady.

  3. Set and lay

A sand bed is screeded level and the pavers are laid to the pattern, cut where needed.

  4. Restrain and finish

Edge restraint goes in, joints are filled, and the surface is compacted, swept and cleaned up.

Questions

Paver questions from West Palm Beach owners

Short answers on bases, patios and where we work.

How long do pavers take to install?

It depends on the size of the space, the pattern and how much base work the ground needs. A short walkway and a full driveway are very different jobs. Describe the space and we will talk through what the work involves.

What is under a paver driveway or walkway?

Layers. Soil at the bottom, a compacted stone base, a thin sand bed, then the pavers, with edge restraint around the border. Each layer has a job, and skipping or rushing one is how surfaces settle or shift.

Can you build a paver patio or pool deck?

Patios, yes. For pool decks, ask us. Pool areas have their own conditions, so tell us about the space and we will say whether it is a fit.

Why do pavers shift or sink in some yards?

Most of the time it is the base or the edges, not the pavers. A weak base, poor drainage or no edge restraint lets stones move. Heavy summer rain in South Florida makes a solid base even more important.

Which towns do you install pavers in?

West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Jupiter, Wellington, Palm Beach Gardens, The Acreage and Royal Palm Beach. If you are close but not on the list, call and ask.
